A loving, dedicated family man, Dan Lester Turley, age 72, lost his battle with Cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease on April 28, 2015, in his home in Pinole, California, with loving family at his side.
Dan was born on November 25, 1942, in Albany, California, to Betty Ann and Robert Lester Turley. Dan graduated from Acalanes High School in Lafayette California, and Heald Business College. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Dan married Johanna Chiarantano in 1973, and had two daughters, Jeannine, and Deanna. The family resided in El Cerrito then Pinole. Dan worked for Foley & Bonny at the El Cerrito Plaza, until retiring in 2010.
Dan enjoyed playing golf, jogging, bicycling, oil painting and Bonsai. Dan was very proud to have won the 2006 Kinshu Award, First Place, for his entry to the Golden State Bonsai Federation. He was an active member of the Oakland Bonsai Society.
Dan is survived by his wife, Johanna; daughter, Deanna; sister, Jan Dell (Richard); nephew, Derek Dell (Denice); brotherin- law, Tony Chiarantano; and grand niece, Cassandra Dell. Dan is predeceased by his daughter, Jeannine; parents, Betty and Robert Turley; niece, Kimberly Dell; aunt and uncle, Lola and Vern Green.
The family is very appreciative of the physicians and caregivers who helped Dan and the family through the last four years of Dan’s illness, and to the hospice team who provided support for the final leg of his journey.
Services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 12 p.m. at Sunset View in El Cerrito, California.
